As a winner of sailing awards and trophies internationally, I use a simple formula that looks at barriers to success – and more importantly – what we can do about them. I can help show you how to succeed with a team, or on your own. Want to get the best out of your people, rejuvenate a project, increase success by changing focus ~ all of these business desires can be modelled using examples of sports success management.

In Business, there are always lessons to be learnt from leaders of sports teams especially those with a particular project and goals to deliver. Let’s face it:
LIFE IS ALL ABOUT TEAMS.
We all strive to get along with people; to live alongside one another amicably: in business, we always strive for success. When you are sailing, feedback is immediate, especially offshore. It takes from 16 – 25 days to sail across the Atlantic Ocean on a 37 – 40 foot yacht. With 6-9 ladies aboard! Yes, that’s what we did! No shops, no stopping, no showers …. back to basics! Enjoy some fascinating insights after many ‘big brother boat’ experiences. They include managing a team, working as a team, roles and responsibilities, trust and beliefs, performing under pressure (especially lack of sleep), overcoming obstacles organisational skills and logistics. Mix that with some costly mistakes along the way and moving on after them! Those learnings make sharing success ever more rewarding.
LIFE IS ALL ABOUT TEAMS.
Every successful team has a clear vision of exactly what it is they are aiming to achieve. They know the guidelines/’rules’ about how to get there, their specific role in that quest, they know what to do when its all going well and they know how to handle problems ~ with or without their leader! Imagine what the team did when they were in the Ocean 3 days away from land heading for St Lucia, and realised they didn’t have any power…..!! What did they do….?!

Overcoming Adversity:Using Resilience
Sailing: Life or Death Everyday. We will all encounter adversity in life. How we deal with those challenges can mean the difference between success or not. In an ocean sailors life ~ it can literally mean that …..Life or Death. Sharing what I know first hand about what it takes to overcome adversity in order to create and live your dream should be engaging and enlightening. Only 1000 small yachts sail across the Atlantic each year. It’s quite a big deal. I trained hundreds of women to work as a team and achieve their dreams. During 12 ocean crossings I am proud to say that all of the teams came out best of friends with awesome shared experiences: many bucket lists ticked off as achieved, all safe and well.

Annie is engaging as she regales her stories how she grew from an inner city London school to lead the UK's only sailing school for ladies. Sending 13 crews across the Atlantic Ocean she has many stories. Be entertained as she tells of a King taking her lines in St Barth’s, the challenges it took to get there in the first place and the time they were mid Atlantic with no power!
Holding my vision:
I worked my way up the ranks from receptionist to buyer: I was the youngest buyer in Debenhams ending up a Director at La Senza. I met Ellen Macarthur at Kingfisher/B&Q and that’s when life really started. I resigned the next day, sailed across the Atlantic and had set up a sailing business for Ladies only (the underdogs) by the time I reached the shore. The rest is history.

Annie’s Latest Vision:
“I have just launched ” HealthyHer” a woman’s international community with the aim to get 1 million girls/ladies healthier & happier in the next 5 years. In doing this I hope to attract 50,000 more woman to the sea and to sailing to join the movement to protect the Oceans.
I actively support Tracy Edwards and her iconic yacht Maiden supporting her charity to get 1 million girls an education. Both tall orders, but with my track record, I have no doubt they will be achieved” .
